Frequently asked
How to get a job in Nepal — straight answers.
The questions Nepali job seekers actually type into Google. Answered from the operator's seat — no filler, no agency pitch.
- How do I get a job in Nepal in 2026?
- Most real openings in Kathmandu are filled through referrals and direct outreach, not job portals. Build a one-page CV tailored to the sector (IT, INGO, banking, hospitality), keep a public LinkedIn with Nepal-based keywords, apply directly on company career pages (Leapfrog, Fusemachines, Deerwalk, F1Soft, NIC Asia, UN agencies), and follow up with the hiring manager on LinkedIn within 48 hours. Portals like Merojob, JobsNepal, Kumari Job and Froxjob are useful for volume roles but competitive.
- What are the highest-paying jobs in Nepal right now?
- In NPR terms: senior software engineers at export-oriented IT firms (NPR 200K–450K/mo), product managers (NPR 180K–350K/mo), commercial bank AGMs/DGMs, INGO country-office roles, and specialist doctors. In USD terms, remote engineering and design roles for US/EU companies routinely pay USD 2,500–6,000/mo — more than most C-suite roles at Nepali companies.
- How do I get a remote job from Nepal for a US or European company?
- Target companies that already hire globally via an EOR (Deel, Remote, Oyster, Rippling EOR) or hire contractors worldwide. Optimize your LinkedIn headline for the exact role, contribute publicly (GitHub, Dribbble, writing), and apply through remote-first boards: Remote OK, We Work Remotely, Wellfound, Himalayas, Working Nomads. Expect 2–4 months of applications; conversion improves sharply once you have one remote reference.
- Do I need a work permit to work in Nepal?
- Nepali citizens do not need a work permit to work in Nepal. Foreign nationals must obtain a work permit from the Department of Labour under the Labour Act 2074 and Foreign Employment Rules; the employer applies, and permits are typically tied to roles where a qualified Nepali is not available. Non-tourist visa (NT-visa) is issued after the permit is granted.
- How can freshers get their first job in Nepal?
- Three things beat everything else: (1) a 2–6 month paid or unpaid internship at a credible company — most Kathmandu IT firms convert 30–50% of interns; (2) one visible project (GitHub repo, Behance case study, published article, small NGO campaign) you can show in the interview; (3) direct outreach to 20–30 alumni on LinkedIn asking for a 15-minute call, not a job. Cold applications alone convert under 2%.
- What documents do I need to apply for a job in Nepal?
- Standard set: 1-page CV (2 pages max for 10+ years experience), citizenship certificate copy, academic transcripts and character certificates, PAN card, recent passport-size photos, and experience letters from previous employers. For government and bank jobs, an equivalence certificate from Tribhuvan University is required if your degree is from abroad.
- Which sectors are hiring the most in Nepal right now?
- IT services and product engineering (export-focused), commercial banks and microfinance, INGO/development sector, hospitality as tourism recovers, and health. Manufacturing and construction hire heavily but at lower wages. Government (Lok Sewa) remains the most competitive — one-time exams with 100:1 ratios.
- How do I hire in Nepal as a foreign company?
- Three paths: (1) Employer of Record (EOR) for 1–10 hires — fastest, no entity required; (2) Set up a Nepal Pvt. Ltd. once you have 5+ FTEs — lower per-head cost but heavy compliance; (3) Contractor agreements — legally risky beyond ~3 months of full-time work due to misclassification rules.
- What is the typical salary for HR roles in Kathmandu?
- As of 2026: HR Executive NPR 35–60K/mo, HR Manager NPR 80–150K/mo, HR Head/CHRO NPR 200–400K/mo. International-funded startups pay 30–60% above these bands.
- Are remote jobs in Nepal legal?
- Yes. Nepalis can legally work remotely for overseas employers. The Nepal Rastra Bank requires foreign-currency salary inflows to come through the formal banking channel; FOREX must be repatriated within 35 days. SSF and income tax obligations sit with the employee unless an EOR handles them. Always consult a Nepal-registered tax professional for your specific case.

Why this page exists
Nepal HR is under-documented on the English internet.
Most "HR in Nepal" content is either a sales page for a recruitment agency or a copy-pasted summary of the Labour Act. Neither tells a founder what actually happens on day 30, day 90, or day 365 when you hire someone in Kathmandu — what the Labour Office really enforces, how SSF inspections work in practice, what a fair offer looks like in NPR, and how Nepali employees experience Western-style performance management.
I write from the operator's seat. If a page here is wrong, email me and I'll fix it — that's the standard.
